Meg Rothi and Rob Lovdahl first met online through a dating website called OkCupid, but they don’t love that part of the story. They actually met about a week later, January 21, 2017, at a bar called The Wall in the Orange Circle. At this point in both of their lives, both Rob and Meg had been on lots and lots of first dates and had been very discouraged, and were on verge of swearing off any attempt at dating altogether, but very quickly they both realized that this was something special. On their first date they talked about normal stuff like jobs, hobbies, and families, but also connected over their dental abnormalities. Meg, fresh from that morning’s inaugural OC Women’s March, was all fired up and even dared to bring up the forbidden first date topics like politics, religion, and exes. They covered topics that were considered oh so wrong, but together they just felt right. The night ended in a sweet hug, but over the next eight days they went on three more dates. First was the arcade, and then an improv show, and on their fourth date they went to Mount Baldy to play in the snow. Apparently everyone had that idea because the road was packed, but when they finally parked there was a perfect sledding hill. They shared one sled that Meg had been given by the Applebaums (thanks Jay!), flew threw the snow at top speeds, and were smiling ear-to-ear. On the way home, Rob whipped out a container of hot water and a packet of hot chocolate for Meg that he had brought from home. Meg was so taken back by his thoughtfulness, looking back on this moment, she knows now that this is when she first fell in love with him. Soon after, Rob caught a man-cold. They had had plans to spend the evening together, but Rob felt like he should cancel for fear of getting Meg sick, but she came over anyways with homemade chicken noodle soup and cold medicine. They watched Kubo and the Two Strings on Rob’s couch. This is night that Rob fell in love with Meg.
